Physical Fitness

For many years, TITUS has been in the business of training Olympic level and Professional athletes. Athletes are defined by their conditioning. Through performance-oriented training they are developed to be smarter, more explosive, more agile, faster, more efficient, and are able to endure extensive wear and tear given a multitude of variables. Yet, for all of their hard work, in the end, the stress put upon them is strictly related to sports. Their objective is to maximize their skills on the field, in order to give fans a greater show. Their stakes are limited to friendly competitions, where there is a guarantee that the loser will live to train again.

We believe that public safety can learn a lot from the field of athletics. The men and women who perform in the role of a protector, like athletes, are asked to do extraordinary things, under a variety of extraordinary circumstances. They are called to perform to an optimum level each time that the alarm bells go off, the shots are fired, when fighting fires, or when dealing with combative individuals.

Performance in public safety matters, and we believe that how you train is the difference in how you will perform. Public safety is more than an occupation. It is a contest for survival, a marathon of career-related dangers that must be overcome throughout a 5, 10, or 30-year occupational commitment. For this reason, public safety officials should not be prescribed conventional exercise routines. "Wellness" is not enough to assure survival against the occupational rigors that come with being a Protector. Where wellness is for the masses, occupational fitness is directed to specific individuals with specific job tasks. In the words of an athletic coach, we have "studied the tapes" and have created a program to meet the needs of today's public safety worker. Whether it is running up four flights of stairs in full gear while dragging a charged hose line into a fire or foot chasing an armed suspect for six blocks in the August heat, we have built our program to address these kinds of needs.

Our program is comprehensive. We address physical fitness for optimum job-related performance. We have studied OSHA reports and have researched the events which cause injury and death in the field. We are fully aware of how poor nutrition contributes to decreased performance, disease, and early deterioration. We know the mental health issues that plague public safety workers throughout the nation. We have built our program to address and correct these problems and have packaged this program into a full training course that we simply call PROTECTORS.

PROTECTORS have a responsibility to themselves, their families, and their communities to train and prepare for the stressors that they will encounter. They are athletes on a different field of play with higher stakes than winning medals and trophies. We are in the business of scientifically applying what we have learned from our sports athletes to what we know about our community athletes.

Havana, FL: The Navy SEALS Fitness Challenge was presented at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy on Saturday, Nov 21st. More than 100 aspiring young men and women came to the academy to participate in a full day event which featured SEALS trainers, mentors, recruiters and a variety of uniformed staff. Attendees were presented with a basic lecture and several videos describing the role of a US Navy SEAL. Several of them participated in the physical fitness challenge that drove them to the point of exhaustion. The NAVY ACCELERATOR, a self-contained mobile SEAL semi-truck unfolded in the parking lot to present a walk through showcase featuring SEAL equipment and uniforms.

The young men here, young men and ladies that are here are in the preparation stages of entering the Navy for some of the naval Special Warfare, special operations programs," Commander Anthony Almon, Executive Officer said. Participants completed hundreds of push ups, sit ups, and pull ups, and ran four-point-five miles.

The PROTECTORS program was a proud organizer of the challenge and plan to do more in the pan handle.
